On Tuesday night (May 20), Lady Gaga took home a 2025 Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Direction, thanks to her heartfelt pre-Super Bowl performance of “Hold My Hand” — a tribute honoring victims of multiple recent tragedies.

The moving performance, aired ahead of Super Bowl LIX on February 9 during Fox’s broadcast, featured Gaga behind a piano on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, delivering a stripped-down version of her Oscar-nominated ballad from Top Gun: Maverick. Her performance paid tribute to those affected by the New Year’s Eve terror attack in New Orleans, Hurricane Helene’s devastation across Florida and Georgia, and the January wildfires in Los Angeles County. Gaga was introduced by NFL legends Tom Brady, Michael Strahan, and Terry Bradshaw, while first responders — including firefighters and police officers — stood solemnly around her.

Gaga shared the Emmy win with her production team: Seth Dudowsky, Bill Richards, Joel Santos, Jesse Weiss, Brad Zager, and music editor Joe Nargi.

In the category, they triumphed over notable entries from:

  • Evolution of the Black Quarterback (Prime Video)

  • The Lionheart (HBO Max)

  • Noche UFC: For Mexico, For All Time (ESPN+)

  • The Turnaround (Netflix)

Already an Oscar winner for “Shallow” (from A Star Is Born) and the holder of 14 Grammy Awards, Gaga is now just one Tony away from joining the rare club of EGOT winners. While some debate whether only Primetime Emmys should count toward the EGOT title, Emmy’s official social channels were quick to celebrate her three-letter milestone after her Sports Emmy win.
